Chair's Corner

Welcome to the USC Department of Chemistry, the only school of Chemistry in Cebu. As such, we are responsible for training the hundreds of chemists who now populate local and multinational industries, universities, and research laboratories in Cebu and throughout the world.

We are now in the second year of a new Bachelor of Science in Chemistry curriculum and are currently revising our master programs. Review classes for the Chemist Licensure Examination on September 6–7, 2007 have been going on since May 16 and will continue until the last week of August.

Last year, we were also recognized as a CHED Center of Excellence for Chemistry, joining only six other institutions designated by CHED as COE in Chemistry. We are the only COE in the Visayas. We continue to offer the CHED–HEDP–FDP sponsored Master of Chemistry non–thesis program, along with the research–based Master of Science in Chemistry.

In 2006, we also celebrated the first ever Grand Alumni Homecoming and established Carolinians ALUMNICHEM, Inc. We awarded for the first time the Moises S. Soriaga Award for Academic Excellence in Chemistry to Andrew Gil M. Desabelle (Class 2007) who graduated magna cum laude. We hope to start the Fr. Edgar Oehler Scholarship Fund as well as the Wilhelm Brüll Research Fund. If you want to give to these awards, please contact Carolinians ALUMNICHEM, Inc.
