Chemistry Students' Association
You get to enhance your leadership skills if you join the Chemistry Students’ Association (ChemSA), the co-curricular organization of B.S. Chemistry students. Officers usually consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Auditor, and the year-level representatives. The ruling party is generally the juniors, with none of the seniors allowed to ascend to the presidency both by the constitution and by necessity (they become busy doing research for their thesis).
ChemSA organizes the acquaintance and the Christmas parties for the whole Chemistry family. It also helps the Department in academic events, such as during seminars and conferences. ChemSA is responsible for the Chemistry Month, usually celebrated in February.
USC ChemSA also organizes the annual chemistry quiz bowl, ChemBlitz, which serves as the regional elimination for participants to the Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad (PNCO) held every February in Ateneo de Manila University. ChemBlitz is open to all current third year high school students. In 2006, ChemBlitz will be re–structured to reflect the PNCO format, featuring a written examination, practical laboratory experiments, and finally a Quiz Bowl. To participate in ChemBlitz, please contact the
Department of Chemistry.
