Department of Chemistry
Facilities
The USC Department of Chemistry is equipped with state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory facilities, including a number of major scientific equipment. Chemistry majors also enjoy the comfort of an air-conditioned study lounge, which is also equipped with one computing work station. Analytical services are also offered by the Department through the USC Water Laboratory and the Chemistry Analytical Laboratory.
Classrooms
The Department maintains five fully air-conditioned classrooms, four in the Arnoldus Science Complex (rooms C336 to C339) and one in the South Campus (306E). It also uses a classroom (N101) in the Robert Hoeppener Building for service courses to Nursing students. A small conference room inside the Chemistry Research Laboratory (A321) is also used for small classes, tutorials, or research conferences. Room C339, equipped with a multimedia computer and LCD projector, is used exclusively by graduate and undergraduate students. The other rooms have at least an overhead projector and a TV with VCD and VCR players is also available. Room C339 enhances teacher-student interactions.
Laboratories
The Department has 10 teaching and two research laboratories, as well as an instrumentation room housing modern analytical equipment. The service laboratories cater to students taking up General and Inorganic Chemistry, Organic and Biochemistry, and Quantitative Analysis. These laboratories are located in the Arnoldus Science Complex (A323, A325, B328, B331, B333, C335), Bunzel Building (220T), Robert Horppener Building (N302, N303) and the South Campus (309E). The research laboratories (A321, B330) and the instrumentation room are located on the third floor of the Arnoldus Science Complex.
Scientific equipment
The Department has acquired several scientific instruments for instructional, analytical, and research purposes through grants from the Department of Science and Technology Philippine Council for Advanced Science and Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCASTRD), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the Commission on Higher Education which designated USC as a Center of Development (CHED-COD).
