The pursuit for new knowledge has always been a serious task for Carolinian chemists. The Department focuses on three broad areas of research: Environmental Management and Protection, Health-related Studies, and Chemistry Education. Under these themes are targeted researches dealing with method development, natural products chemistry, forensic science, and synthesis of new compounds. Enhanced understanding of student learning also concerns other researchers. To many students, Chemistry may come as complex and difficult to learn and this problem is being addressed with proposals for new teaching strategies. The Department’s media group also develop multimedia aids for visualizing key concepts in Chemistry. And in the laboratory, micro-scale experiments are continuously being performed.
