Graduate Program

The Department of History graduate program aims to:
  • develop deeper understanding and appreciation for the historical processes that have shaped modern historical developments;
  • develop interest and competence in Historical Research, analysis and interpretation, Public History, and Cultural Resource Management;
  • enhance the individual’s teaching proficiency in History by broadening and deepening the student’s perspective in the discipline.

Master in History
The Master in History program is a specialized study in the field of Historical Research, Historiography, and Public History. The program requires 30 units of Required Courses and 12 units of Major Elective Courses.

The required courses focus on the Philosophy of History, Research Methodology, Philippine and Southeast Asian Historiography, Public History, and Cultural Resource Management. The electives include a variety of content enriching as well as highly specialized courses. The program is intended mainly for instructors and professionals who want to deepen and broaden their understanding of local, national, and world history, the process of historical research and historiography and the teaching of History.

Passing the written and oral comprehensive examinations and the submission of a Historical Essay are the final requirements for graduation.
