Bernard Garcia, M.A., Ruby Suazo, Ph.D., Ryan Urbano, M.A., Jerry Pescadero, M.A., Gregorio Refugio, M.A., Amosa Velez, Ph.D., Maje Purino, M.A., and Daryl Mendoza, Ph.B. – all keenly listening to Fr. Tony Salas, SVD (extreme left) at the Balay Samaritano
Fr. Tony Salas, SVD graciously welcomed us in the BALAY SAMARITANO and informed us about its main objectives. The house, which is actually open to the street children and homeless elderly of Cebu City, has for its goal not just to give food, shelter, and clothing to the impoverished, but to offer a long-term project that will instill a structure of discipline and self-worth in the clients. It is the hope of Fr. Salas that many street children of Cebu will be put to school through the program of the House.
This is not the last time the department will visit the BALAY SAMARITANO. In fact plans are already being made for a possible linkage with the SOPHIA, the organization composed of the majors, faculty and staff of the Department of Philosophy.
