Brenette Abrenica, MAPA
Brenette finished her Master of Arts in Public Administration from Cebu Normal University with a thesis on Student Activism: Status, Challenges, and Breakthroughs. In October 2008, she earned a Master in Political Science from USC. Among the major courses she handles are political science research, public administration, local government and political behavior.
Currently, Brenette is engaged in expanding her grasp on Cebuano politics and voter transition studies through new teaching responsibilities and training opportunities. Among others, Brenette’s extension activities are with the World Bank-Knowledge Development Center (WB-KDC).
Ferdinand Boncayao, LLB, MM-PM
Formerly the chairperson of the Department, Ferdinand is extending his management skills and student-oriented leadership as Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Ferdinand leads the design of curricular programs in the Department with his training in political science, law, and public management. He specializes in law and governance, leadership and management, and conflict resolution. When not in the classroom Ferdinand attends to church duties as lector and affectionate father to his children.
Philip C. Camiguing, LlB
Philip is Graft Investigation & Prosecution Officer of the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas (OMB). He finished his AB Political Science from the University of San Carlos in 2001. He earned his degree in Law from the University of San Jose Recoletos in 2005 while working full-time as Public Assistance and Corruption Prevention Officer of the OMB. In 2005 he passed the Bar. He specializes in Obligations & Contracts and Constitutional Law. Philip is married to Dr. Catherine C. Olivar whom he has one beautiful daughter "Paula".
Archill Nina Faller-Capistrano, LlB
Archill finished both her political science and law studies in USC. She specializes in international relations and critical discourses. Her guidance to the debating teams over the past years has brought successive victories. Archill‘s passion for fiction is as serious as her hair-splitting demand for reason.
OWEN O. DE LA VICTORIA, LlB
Owen graduated AB Political Science and Bachelor of Laws from the University of San Carlos. He is presently completing his MA in Public Administration. He lectures on the Philippine Constitution and Political Thought. His research interests include church and state relations, judicial systems and political theory.
Fernando C. Fajardo, MA
A graduate of Master of Arts in Economics from the University of San Carlos, Fajardo presently teaches graduate and undergraduate economics. His education includes attending the first Regional Industrial Development Executive’s Course at UP-ISSI in Quezon City and a special training on Impact Assessment of Development Projects at East-West Center’s Resource Systems Institute in Hawaii, USA. He also writes a column on economic and development issues for Cebu Daily News and accepts consultancy work on local planning and development and industry studies, including project feasibility studies and related assignments.
Fajardo served the government in various capacities in the past as Professional Economist and Industry/Utilities Specialist of NEDA Region X in Cagayan de Oro City, Assistant Regional Director of NEDA Region VII, Project Manager of the AusAid assisted Central Visayas Water and Sanitation Project, and OIC Executive Director of Tañon Strait Commission.
Cornelio B. Guantero, Jr., MA
Cornelio is a part-time instructor at the Political Science Department of the University of San Carlos handling Public Policy Analysis, Reform and Development. He earned his Master of Public Policy specializing in International Policy and Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Australian National University. He works full time as a senior economic development specialist at the Plan and Policy Formulation Division of the NEDA Regional Office 7.
NOEL P. LENTIJA
Noel finished his AB Political Science at the West Visayas State University, Iloilo. He is currently pursuing Master in Political Science at the University of San Carlos. He teaches Political Thought and Comparative Politics.
Grace C. Magalzo, MPoSc, LlB.
Grace finished both her AB Political Science and Master in Political Science from USC. She earned her degree in Law from USJ-R in 2008. She specializes in Comparative Politics, Electoral Sysytems and Constitutional Law. Currently, she teaches subjects related to her fields of specialization both in the undergraduate (Systems of Government I & II) and the graduate (Theories of Comparative Politics & Electoral Sysytems and Political Parties) programs.
Roderic Rama Poca, LLB
Ricky’s training in political science and law gave way to his rich experience in the Philippine Senate as a legislative assistant to former Sen. Carlos Romulo. He is soon to finish his Master of Political Science from USC. Currently, he teaches parliamentary procedures and current political issues. Ricky’s activities include print and television broadcasting activities, civic engagement in the Rotary Club of Cebu Port and active involvement in the Regional Development Council.
GLORIA ESTENZO RAMOS, Llb, MA
Atty. Ramos is a lawyer-advocate for the environment, women and children’s rights and good governance. She studied at the University of the Philippines – Diliman, Quezon City, with degrees in Master of Public Administration (2003), Bachelor of Laws (1979) and Bachelor of Arts, major in Political Science (1974).
She was appointed Deputy Chair for the Visayas of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, National Environmental Action Team (NEAT) in 2003, Chairperson of the Environment Committee of the IBP-Cebu Chapter, and co-convenor of the Green Forum and Save Tañon Strait Citizen’s Movement. She is a columnist on environment and governance with the Cebu Daily News.
Jiah L. Sayson, MA
Jiah earned her Master of Arts in Development Studies major in Politics of Alternative Development at the Institute of Social Studies, Den Haag, The Netherlands in 2004. She is trained in urban and regional planning and development (UP-Cebu College), Geographic Information Systems (USC and Larenstein University), and American political development (University of Massachusetts).
Ruby S. Suazo, Ph.D
Ruby teaches philosophy and political science courses at the Departments of Philosophy and Political Science. He finished his A.B. and M.A. in Philosophy at the Christ the King (Divine Word) Mission Seminary, Quezon City and his Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of San Carlos. His area of specialization is Hermeneutics and Phenomenology, Social and Political Philosophy, Continental Philosophy, Paul Ricoeur, and Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche. His area interest lies on national development initiatives.
Ryan Urbano, MA
Ryan Urbano earned his Master of Arts in Philosophy in 1998 at the University of San Carlos, Cebu City. Recently, he finished a joint masters program in Applied Ethics (MAE) at the University of Linkoping, Sweden and Utrecht University, The Netherlands. His interests are in the fields of political philosophy, applied ethics, philosophy of religion and continental philosophy.
Arsenio Tan, LlB
Atty. Tan finished his baccalaureate degrees in political science and law from the University of San Carlos. He is one of the few Filipino professors of law to receive public instruction for lawyers from the Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Atty. Tan continuously inspires students to take on the discipline and commitment for the effective study of law.
Myrna is the long-time secretary of the Department who, all these years, has never wavered in her dedication to the needs of students and teachers.
Jell Therese Pelayo
Jell is the bubbly and dedicated working scholar of the Department. She is a 2nd year BS Education major in Communication Arts.
